Keep off the road – say BioNova

On-site waste disposal is the way forward

Many so-called waste solutions are based on poor environmental practice, according to Biodigester manufacturer, BioNova, who say that on-site waste disposal is a far better solution than seeing waste transported all over the country to be treated at processing sites.

“There are many plus-points to biogas, for example” says BioNova’s Managing Director, Clive Tayton, “But I recently read the PR from a Midlands-based company congratulating itself for winning a contract in our area (Devon) that will see vast volumes of lorries on the road transporting waste.  Where’s the carbon footprint in that when companies can process organic waste on site!”

He added:  “Quick, on-site organic waste going into a Biodigester will at minimum produce material that can be used as a soil enhancer, but better still as a fuel for an on-site biomass boiler to produce free heating and water.  Now that’s what you call joined-up-thinking, not chucking more and more waste into the backs of more and more HGVs to create even more exhaust fumes”.

Tayton emphasises that he is all in favour of waste not going to landfill, but points to the likes of Moto, IKEA, Honda, Gordonstoun School, and many more who have invested in a BioNiova Biodigester, which in 72 hours or less, transforms food waste into a nutrient and energy-rich material that can be used as a biofuel for a biomass boiler.

Energy usage is also a key factor not necessarily taken into full consideration with some environmental technology – according to Tayton – with many choosing not to factor in high energy costs into the full equation.  He compares this with BioNova’s BioDigester, which is odour-free and at £6 per tonne, very energy efficient.
